Upto Govt to accept my retirement: Dr Pampori

Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNS): The government Friday said that it will accept the retirement of Government Medical College Principal Dr Rafeeque Ahmed Pampori, who has gone on protest leave following his differences with the Health minister Choudhary Lal Singh.

Lal Singh said that the government was going to accept the retirement of GMC principal.

“It is his (GMC Principal’s) own decision. If he wants to go, the government has no problem. We will find a deserving person to head the GMC institutes,” Singh told KNS.

“I am the minister of the health and medical education department to take decisions which are for the welfare of the people and for patients,” Singh told KNS.

Dr Rafeeque Ahmed Pampori went on a protest leave and said that he will seek voluntary retirement from his services, which were ending in February 2018.

Dr Pampori said he has written to Health and Medical Education Department for voluntary retirement from February 1, 2016and requesting leave from today.

“It is upto the government to accept my retirement,” Dr Pampori told KNS. “If the government restores the dignity of the post of Principal, then I will see,” he said.

Sources in the health and medical education department said that the principal has sought voluntary retirement following “too much interference” by the minister concerned in the decision making of the GMC and its associated hospitals.

“The minister and the principal were not going well for some months after differences with the former over a number of things which were happening continuously in the running of the administration of the GMC institutes. GMC Principal was a captain of a team which was controlled by the minister himself. He had no say in the field, which is the affairs of the GMC institutes,” sources said.

Sources said that five GMC hospitals- Chest Disease, Psychiatry, GB Pant, Bones and Joints- are not functional well because of the direct interference of the minister in their affairs.

“All the GMCs associated hospitals are without proper Medical superintendents. Few medical superintendents have been appointed, despite objections by the principal over their appointments,” sources said. (KNS)

JLNMH ransacked after the death of pregnant woman
Srinagar, Dec 19, :
Agitated people allegedly ransacked Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JLNMH) and thrashed medical staff after a woman succumbed giving birth to a new born baby. Sources told CNS, that Tasleema Bano (29) wife of Kaisar Ahmed, a resident of Sadrabal Hazratbal had been admitted in the hospital after developing labour pain. “She was normal but died on the operation table soon after the delivery”. The devastated family accused the hospital of medical negligence.
"It's a case of medical negligence. The hospital staff had no trained professionals to handle the case,” one of the relatives of deceased woman told CNS. Reports said that commotion prevailed in the hospital after Tasleema’s family and relatives heard of her death. The agitated family members allegedly smashed the windowpanes of operation theatre and slapped a senior doctor present on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Tajamul Hussain said that an inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the incident. “The family members lost control and caused damage to the hospital equipments. We have constituted a committee that will present its report within a week,” he said.
When asked about the cause of death, Deputy Medical Superintendent said that it will be premature to say anything at this point of time. “Everything will surface after inquiry committee will present its report,” he added.
Meanwhile, in a shocking incident, a pregnant woman ‘dying’ with labour pain was allegedly not attended by doctors at Sub-District Hospital Sopore on Saturday.
Reports said that a pregnant woman Mehfooza Jan wife of Bilal Ahmed Sofi, a resident of Tarzoo Sopore was admitted in the hospital on Friday. The woman developed severe labour pain on Saturday morning but ironically no doctor was present in the hospital. “We called a lady doctor (name withheld) who refused to turn up in the hospital saying she is busy at her home. We had no alternative but to shift Mehfooza Jan to a private Nursing Home where she gave birth to a baby boy,” the husband of Mehfooza Jan told CNS.
The attendants who helped the family in shifting Mehfooza to Nursinghome expressed resentment and alleged that doctors at SDH Sopore frequently take patients for a ride and often remain absent from their duties.
Medical Superintendent SDH Sopore Dr Sami said that he will look into the matter. (CNS)
