This is the very first match of Indian Premier League 2018 so lineup is not known, but we will try our best to predict the playing eleven below. Mumbai Indians, the prevailing champions have a very balanced side and are tournament favourites. Their opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis can take the game away from the opposition in a matter of overs, while layers like Pandya brothers and Pollard can give the late surge required at death overs. It is the bowling which could be a matter of concern as they don’t have a quality Indian spinner and Bumrah is the only frontline Indian pacer in the squad. So they will be dependent on their foreign imports like Cummins, McClenaghan and Fizz which means Duminy will find it difficult to make it to starting 11.

Chennai Super Kings are returning back to IPL after serving a suspension of two years. They have retained most of the core players which have been so instrumental to their success. This squad would have been envious for anyone 5 years back but the question is are they good enough now? Time will say but I seriously feel that they lack firepower as well as bowling depth. They will be dependent on Watson and Murli to get them off to a flying start followed by IPL’s own child Suresh Raina to accelerate during the middle overs. The two dark horses in the side are Ambati Rayadu and Kedar Jadhav who can do the damage in the death overs and offcourse we can never ignore MSD. It remains to be seen how Jadeja  fairs this season. Dwayne Bravo would be their main bowler but he has been somewhat quiet off late. In the spin department, most likely they will play Bhajji but I won’t be surprised if Karn Sharma is preferred over him considering his all round abilities. One of the two new pacers procured this season Ngidi or Wood may  play in this match.
