The Kashmir Valley, also known as the Vale of Kashmir, is a valley in the portion of the Kashmir region administered by India. Historically, Kashmir equated to this valley but later on, due to the valley's fame, all the territories of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir came to be known by the name of Kashmir.[9] The valley is bounded on the southwest by the Pir Panjal Range and on the northeast by the main Himalayas range. It is approximately 135 km long and 32 km wide, and is drained by the Jhelum River.[4]
